four hundred and fifty years
after the party triptych, 2021
paper, ash, plastic, marijuana, resin
4.5in x 4.5in x 1in
The present, albeit fleeting is all we have. The past can seem a lifetime ago and the future - lightyears away.
This piece consists of aged joint butts and disposed marijuana resin cartridges, frozen within a resin ashtray. Many industries start out with a hopeful promise. As the decades pass, they see leaps in technology and eventually almost always guide their objects to the landfill at the end of their life. The joint butts will, over the years, decompose within this piece but the cartridges will remain spotless for half a century.
As part of a triptych - ‘After the Party’, this piece is deeply personal and represents not only distant relationships but also a hopeful cry to save our planet.
